Skin Rejuvination

@ The Salon by Jennifer Louise

The Science

The heat from the light is attracted to the melanin/oxy-haemoglobin in the blood. The heat reaction breaks down the melanin and coagulates the blood within the area. This then leaves the body through the lympathic system leaving the skin with a clearer complexion.

The heat that is also created within the epidermis and dermis (RF treatments only) makes the skin react as if it has had an injury. The blood and collagen rush into this area to repair it leaving the skin with a smoother appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it suitable for all skin tones?
The skin rejuvenation is based on light absorption in melanin and haemoglobin, therefore treatments are more effective on light skin that is not sun tanned at the time of treatment. However, AW3® systems have pre-programmed settings for each treatment so all skin tones can ensure they will receive the correct energy output for their complexion.

Age spots contain a substance called melanin, and diffuse redness contains a substance called haemoglobin. When cells containing lots of these substances, they are condensed together, this is where the AW3® light will target the area to rejuvenate it almost immediately.

How long does it take?
The glass prism within the AW3® applicator that guides the light to the skin is 15mm by 50mm, so a large area can be targeted in one flash of light. Our system has the largest spot size on the market and is the only system to have auto flashes without delay. This mean doing a facial will only take 5-10 minutes.

Does it hurt?
Skin type is a fundamental effecting factor in this treatment as due to the high level of pigment in the skin. Tolerance of pain is very individual from person to person and machine to machine. We have a variety of machines including no pain machines and the sensation of each are completely different.
No anaesthetics are required, and most people describe the sensation as similar to that of a rubber band snapping onto the skin. You may find it comforting to cool the skin after the treatment.

Do I need to take any special precautions?
The light used is a completely safe, visible light. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed by our unique filtering system.
Since tanning takes place by accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin, it is, however, important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium or self-tanning cream) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective. Generally, no post-treatment care is necessary. But people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying an ice pack to the face immediately after treatment or applying an ointment prescribed by the doctor. Furthermore, it is recommended to use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 60) for a few weeks following treatment.

What can I expect?
You may notice that the skin looks a little “dirty” for a few days following treatment. After that you will find that your skin looks smoother and fresher. You might choose to have 1 – 2 annual maintenance treatments in order to keep your youthful appearance.

How can I be sure this is safe and effective?
Clinical trials documenting AW3 safety and effectiveness are carried out by leading doctors prior to the release of the product. The results of these tests are then published in respected, refereed medical journals. The settings used for your treatment will be based on the settings recommended by the clinicians who carried out the clinical trials.
