Mounjaro is a prescription weight loss injectable. It was initially approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Weight loss was found to be a common side effect, and therefore has since been developed and licensed to treat obesity.

It works by reducing your appetite, which helps you consume fewer calories. Alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased exercise, it can help you lose weight gradually.

It is available as pre-filled injection pens that you use once weekly. Each pen contains 4 doses. After each pen, you may increase the dose if suitable until you reach the maximum maintenance dose.

Our in-house prescriber will assess your requirements during a thorough consultation, you will be taught to use the kwik-pen at home or can make appointments with us to administer the injections.

How does Mounjaro work?

Mounjaro works by reducing your appetite. This means you eat fewer calories and, alongside a lower–calorie diet, will help you to lose weight.

The active ingredient is Tirzepatide which is a GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist. It belongs to the same family of drugs as Saxenda (Liraglutide), Wegovy and Ozempic (Semaglutide).

It works on two hunger hormones: GLP-1 and GIP. This is unique compared to other weight loss treatments like Saxenda and Wegovy which only affect GLP-1.
